Tina Turner's resilience and positive attitude are just impressive, but the most interesting part is how much her personal story seems to say about her home country and its society. Music nerds who are mainly interested in the back stories to all of her songs, albums, videos and tours will be disappointed by this book, because it focuses on Turner's view of the world and how she dealt with the numerous setbacks and challenges she faced throughout her life, including her loveless childhood, her a ...more

Great book. I couldn’t stop reading it. I love it that she told so much in this book. About her childhood, about Ike, struggles in her career, health problems etc. You really get to know the woman that is Tina Turner.

I don't know what it was about this book but once it got started it was really hard for me to stop. I like Tina Turner, knew her history, remember when she became "big" with Private Dancer. But this closer look at her life made me really admire her, made me wish she was touring yet as I'd definitely go. As I listened to this book I found myself stopping often around the time she left Ike and started on her own. She would mention songs, places, people, things she was doing in her life and I had t ...more

Tina Turner has had an amazing life and it's really sad that now that she's found true love, her health isn't so great.

Tina Turner is nearly 80 and still manages to surprise us with her insight. She invites readers to share her miseries and her victories in MY LOVE STORY. Tina Turner's resilience and positive attitude is impressive, Tina describes the “Ike years” in vivid detail and how faith, her career and good friends gave her the chance at the life she always wanted.

Tina Turner is an icon who I've admired my entire life. Her beauty is unmatched. Her vocals are out of this world. Her private struggles and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Ike Turner was something I'll never forget.
Her story empowers us all especially those of us who survived abuse. Her ability to discuss it with others will hopefully give others courage in knowing they are not alone.
It's said Oprah had asked her about the relationship and tried to get her to speak openly but she rarely

I would have loved to see her perform live. What an icon.

In a life that is nearly a legend spanning almost eight decades, Tina Turner still manages to surprise us with her insight. Taking the long view, she invites readers to share her miseries and her victories in MY LOVE STORY.

Before Tina Turner, there was Anna Mae Bullock, daughter of a sharecropper in the “don’t blink or you’ll miss it” town of Nutbush, Tennessee. When she was 11, her mother abandoned the family. In school, she struggled to read and do math (she later realized she was dyslexic), y

This was a quick easy read. I can’t recall ever reading a celebrity memoir before (I’m just not into celebrities like that), but I love how honest and real Tina is. I really got a sense of her as a person (as opposed to a great musical icon), and what a gift to be so honest with first herself, but also with her fans to even share her story. Tina even included pictures of herself at some of her lowest points in recent history. She’s not the glammed up Tina, but just a suffering human like many of ...more

A great book with lots of photos, and such a personal story. I'm from Tennessee and have followed Tina and loved her music for so long. It was nice to catch up with her since her retirement by reading this memoir. It's amazing what she has gone through and overcome, even since her days with Ike.

This book starts with her second marriage in 2013. It dwells a bit in the past and covers her days with Ike and on tour, eventually walking away from that and reinventing herself, and then retiring and f

I was hooked after reading the first paragraph of this fast moving memoir. Tina Turner’s story is very inspiring and “down to earth.” And, although I already knew quite a bit about her life (especially after watching What’s Love Got to do With It many, many times), I learned so much more that (up to now) wasn’t widely publicized. Her strength and resilience, successfully overcoming obstacle after obstacle, is the true beauty of this book. I am so thankful that she took the time to tell her full ...more

So you think you know Tina Turner...

You think you know her story: the years with an abusive husband, her solo stardom and her younger second husband. In this memoir, Tina explores her past but focuses on her present because she’s finally happy and loved.

It’s written conversationally, so the reader feels like they’re sharing a cup of tea with Tina as she name-drops her superstar friends and indulges in her passions with the money she’s earned during her stellar career. Yet, the book never tips i

Enthralled with My Love Story

I am a Tina fan for sure and I feel privileged to have read the story about her life, more than what she has ever shared before. I became so captivated that on a few occasions I had to put the book down because I felt that some things resonated so deeply with me. She is and sways will be my favorite entertainer and idol. I am so grateful that she shared her love story and pictures, many of which no one has seen. I really enjoyed reading her story and will read it aga

I read a great article by Tina titled "Queen of Hope" on the website of "The World Tribune" publication and that had a lot of wonderful spiritual insights from Tina that weren't in this book. But overall it's a good book for anyone interested in what Tina's been going through in recent years. Sad to learn about Tina Turner's recent health struggles, but the book isn't downbeat, it's quite positive. But if you want to learn more about her spiritual insights as I did, then check out the World Trib ...more

If you are a Tina Turner fan, you will love this book. Turner has overcome about as many obstacles in her life as one can, and yet she still maintains her optimism. This book concentrated on her relationship with her current husband Erwin Bach, instead of the horrors of her life with Ike Turner. Just as her married life with Bach was beginning, Turner had to face both medical and personal challenges. The book has a great authentic voice and you can’t help but root for her as she tackles her prob ...more

Page turner

Tina is an amazing woman who is an inspiration. She knows her own weaknesses and strengths and lives life her way. Like many woman I too was the victim of abuse- emotional, not physical, which can be even harder to overcome. I am a strong and independent woman but abuse can happen to anyone, as evidenced by Tina’s story. The ability to move on and be happy is important and it happened because she never gave up on herself. You go Girl!

Iran's Love Story

A brave well written story or Tina's journey of becoming a woman, mother, wife along with the many challenges that represented boulders in her life and how she overcame them. Elated to read how content with life that Tina is, how she had forgiven those in her past, relinquishing her from all the holds and grips on her life that the past had on her life. Truly admire her courage to share an inspire other individuals whom may be in similar situations.

This was a great story - Tina endured a lot of hardship in her life - an abusive first husband, a stroke, intestinal cancer, and kidney disease which led into a kidney transplant. She fell in love at first sight with her second husband. Through all that Tina went through, she kept plugging along. This is a very personal insight into her life. I felt like I met Tina through the book. Highly recommend!

I’m a big Tuna Turner fan so I was really excited to pick up this book. It didn’t disappoint. While it’s not an awesomely written book, the story is undeniable and I appreciated hearing about it in her own words. The book is very honest and authentic. I recommend it if you like biographies and are a Tina Turner fan. I would certainly recommend it to some of my friends.

One of my Sheroes, Tina Turner gives a candid look at her life. From childhood, through her 14 year marriage to the despicable Ike Turner to a fabulously successful solo career and to finding the love of her life, her beloved Erwin, she is honest and true to her Buddhist beliefs. If you are a fan as I am, you Must read this book!

This is indeed a love story! Delighted she shared her life, so much I didn't know and what a joy that her husband gave the ultimate gift. Grew up with her music, found myself singing every song she mentioned. She had two lives, thank heavens the latter was so freeing for her. I am sorry the book ends on such a sad note, but it is her ultimate love story.

I read an extract from this book in a daily newspaper and it led to my reading this book. I am not a ‘fan’ of Tina Turner but know many of her songs from the radio. She has had a difficult time both emotionally and medically, and this autobiography takes you through her life with feeling. Some parts are sad, some happy and the photos included are great. Well worth reading

Tina has lived a wild and exciting life with a lot of ups and downs but somehow her book reads like she has led a safe, quiet life. There is an thread of sadness throughout the book. Maybe due to her son's death in the midst of writing it. She has a good story to tell and there were lots of good photos but the sadness made me sad.

David Bowie once described Tina Turner as a "phoenix rising from the ashes" and she truly is. This follow up to her previous memoir, I, Tina, is a great read. She tells of her early life in Nutbush, TN, her abusive relationship with Ike Turner and how she was able to overcome the difficulties in her life and become one of the greatest singers in the world. I highly recommend this one.

I really liked this book as well as Tina Turner for that matter. This was like a conversation with a friend in between the chronicling of her history. I don't wonder how she survived, I know the answer to that. But the fact she kept her humility through it all is a testament to her inner strength. That she doesn't see herself as we see her, I wish her the best for the rest of her life.

Essential for any Tina fan. Fantastic read. You can hear her voice and see her facial expressions as she tells her story. This is not a rehash of the things you think already know. It's an introspective that will inspire you to be a stronger, better person.

Very interesting. I’m not especially a fan of her music, and I knew very little about her private life, but I’ve always admired her as a strong, successful woman.
She’s certainly had her struggles and I found a lot of this quite moving.
