An inspiring personal story of redemption, second chances, and the transformative power within us all, from the founder and CEO of the nonprofit charity: water.

At 28 years old, Scott Harrison had it all. A top nightclub promoter in New York City, his life was an endless cycle of drugs, booze, models--repeat. But 10 years in, desperately unhappy and morally bankrupt, he as

I have really wrestled with my feelings about this book and how to deal with my issues. I considered just leaving some stars and be done with it. I don't think that is fair to any of the parties involved, not to the writer, the publisher or those who will consider purchasing the book. Thus, I will break it down to good and bad. I have returned 15 hours later to remove stars from this conversation so we can focus on essential matters. We are not children waiting to see if the teacher put a star o ...more

I received an early copy from Crown via my graduate program.

Scott's story is tremendous and amazing. While reading it, there were times where I felt a presence come over me, as if something unseen resonated with what I was reading. Please buy this book when it's released in October.

This is a very personal story by Scott Harrison of his journey from a confused, rebellious young boy whose mother had a strange illness and whose parents became zealous in their faith to a selfish, partying young man to the founder of a wonderful charity hoping to make a real difference in this world! The book is easy to read and will touch your heart and soul. Scott doesn't hide the truth of his life as a drinking, drug-using night club promoter. Instead he tells us how he used the skills and c ...more

If you only read one book this year, this should be it!! It is not very often that I slow down reading a book, because I didn’t want it to end. Harrison’s story challenges one to look beyond their comforts and step into the incredibly transforming lifestyle of living by faith. In his case, changing the lives of thousands around the world by providing clean water to areas of the world that are without.

Where do I even begin? I had to break up my review in 2 parts.
Part 1. Scott’s Writing:
I’m a self-published author and a female construction worker living in Las Vegas. My start time is 6 a.m. at the Resorts World tower. I found myself getting to work earlier and earlier to read “Thirst”. If I missed the man lift to my work area on the 5th floor I practically ran up the 5 stories worth of stairs to give myself more time to read. I could not stomach the 10-minute wait time for its return. I didn

I very rarely give five stars to any book, but this one checked all the right boxes for me. If you are not familiar with charity:water and Scott Harrison’s story he spends about the first third of the book giving a great history. One learns about his childhood, his family, life events that shaped him and how he ended up being a nightclub promoter in New York. I thought this section was fascinating because I’ve heard Harrison speak before, but never in such detail. The next part of the book is ho ...more

So I didn't get this book for free, and I didn't pay for it. Got it at the public library, so here is an unbiased review. I love a good memoir, and this reads like one, albeit quite long. However, it's almost more of a memoir of charity: water than it is of its founder. I LOVE the podcast "How I Built This" with Guy Roz, in which he interviews founders of very successful companies and talks to them about how they built their brand. This was like reading a very extensive How I Built This intervie ...more

Thirst is a feel good, inspiring read. Scott Harrison is a fantastic story teller who exemplifies how one person can inspire countless others to get behind something they believe in and take action. Scott's stories paint a clear picture of what life in water deprived parts of Africa is like and make you feel connected to the people there. This book is not a technical read and did not go into much detail on the causes behind the water crisis such as politics, climate change, or the long-term susta ...more

Was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of Thirst, which is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. I came in knowing a lot about Charity Water, as I’m a monthly donor and have had a profound respect for the work they do ever since hearing Scott Harrison on Bill Simmons’ podcast a few years ago.

This book not only taught me more about Charity Water and the impact my contributions have made, but challenged me about the idea of charity and the audacity of hope. Most surprising to me was ho

There isn't a stronger or more personal connection between humans then the art of storytelling. Great stories are full of hope. Great stories define who we are. And great stories empower the audience. The book Thirst and Scott's story will leave you inspired, appreciative and motivated to not only tell your story but to make part of your story about giving to people in need so one day those people can tell their story too. Visionaries like Scott change the world and it's because of people like S ...more

Inspiring and moving

Until I read this book, I have to admit that I wasn’t aware of the severity of the global water crisis that many countries are facing and their plight. But after reading this, I want to pledge something for it by spreading the awareness and contributing as much as I can.
Coming to the story of Scott, radical transformation from a night club promoter to chief of a charity organization is truly inspiring and yet another story that it’s never too late to make a change.

First off I was not aware how much of Christianity played a vital role in the author's story. It is always good to read a story about someone who was walking a life that was of emptiness and unfulfillment then gets awoken and changes his trajectory. It seems to me that the skill sets he obtained as a nightlife promoter did not go to waste because they helped him get clean water to the people who struggle daily to get the minimum amount to survive. I amazed by authors journey and appreciate that ...more

Inspirador! Emociona ...more

I was hoping for a bit more insight into the creativity and storytelling behind Harrison’s org charity: water, but I was not disappointed with this book. I was as blown away with his ability to inform, engage and inspire through the written word as I was hearing him speak. The stories behind Harrison’s passion and legacy of providing clean water to the world were stories of hope to keep me moving in my own journey of work without end.

The title was a little deceiving, the whole first half of the book or more is about Scott’s personal life (which was still super entertaining) and lays the backstory to how Scotts’s company “Charity Water” and it’s mission originated. Then the second half of the book is about bringing clean water to the millions who don’t have access. This book will leave you full of tears and ready to contribute to the cause.

Thirst... an inspiring journey one entrepreneur took on a mission to connect people with clean water. Although some chapters dragged on with details of parties and backstory, the book contained valuable yet heart wrenching information about the world's water crisis. Drilling wells to hit fresh water, campaigning for a charity that spends 100% of money received on the company's mission, and finding new resources of revenue and staff are among the challenges encountered by Scott.

Fast read. Kept me engaged the whole way through. The author is an over-the-top kind of personality so everything he does he does beyond reason, but that's a part of why the book was compelling. He also turned his life around from "over the top decadence and self-indulgence" to an over-the-top drive to bring clean water to humanity all over the world. I was a contributor to charity: water before the book but I'm even more secure in my belief that this organization is doing it right.

My work is water. Water is simple to me and it shows up in 20 gpm or 1200 gpm without hesitation. To watch Scott go from his life of selfishness to a life of bringing life to others at 0.3 gpm is humbling and awe inspiring. I would be lying if I said I didnt break down countless times while reading this book. I put it down...only to eat and drink water. My heart fills with joy at his work and is crushed by those that still need something as "mundane" as clean water.

*I was given an advance copy of this book from the publisher*

I first heard Scott's story on a podcast he did with Bill Simmons a few years ago. I was immediately drawn to Scott's mission and purpose. Scott's change of heart was literally miraculous.

This book is well written, engaging, and provides additional stories for the reader even if they are familiar with Scott's tale.

It's an inspiring must read!

Such an encouraging book about the building of Charity:Water. Scott’s turnaround is stunning and his faith and humility are lessons I plan to take going forward. We should always be focusing on causes as individuals not masses, and there is so much more opportunity when you emphasize the hope instead of the struggle.

It’s a great lesson to remind us that all big charities just start with one person that cares. I am excited to see what Scott does next.

I was touched by Scott Harrison’s story. The beginning was so surprising to me, and I kept thinking to myself: “How is this guy going to end up founding a charity for clean water?” Let’s just say that I was amazed how the story got there. So inspirational, and this book is full of hope. What an experience.

I really liked his story in A Path Appears, so it was nice to hear the full story in his biography. His approach to charity is controversial, and he doesn’t have the prim wholesome past that most non profit founders or even employees have, but I think that’s what made his charity so successful in the modern, digital age. Love his passion and evolution of character.

I relate to the comment from another reader: who am I to rate someone's life "his biography"? Scott is a story teller and definitely did an amazing job describing his own journey to self discovery and purpose. His drive and ability to inspire others is put to good use. I trust this book will move many people.

This read was from a referral I saw from Tyler P. Something said why not and I'm so glad I did. We take so much for granted and will often times not lend a hand to others. This inspirational read encourages us to change our own script and become impactful during this lifetime. Thank you Charity it's time for me to change my script.

Truth really is more compelling than fiction. Scott Harrison's book gives his readers two stories in one as it describes how his life changed dramatically and how he is--with the help of thousands of contributors--changing the lives of millions across the globe. Masterfully woven into an inspiring tale, this book is a winner. You'll want to read from start to finish without a break.

What can I possibly say about a book that has touched my heart and soul as this one has. I’ve read so many books that I gave five stars. But “Thirst” by Scott Harrison is so, so much more important. It needs to be read by everyone who thinks his life is challenged. You need to read this book.

It's a page-turner. Harrison went from a drug using nightclub promoter to the founder of a growing charity to deliver water across Africa. There's a little more than that and he tells quite a few of the ups and downs along the way.

I can't think about water the same again.
