I would have cried through the middle of this book if it had been a work of fiction, but knowing it's a true account of senseless tragedy is especially gut-wrenching.

While the first part seemed a little too good to be true in certain accounts of magical family bliss at times, the love for the family was always there. The father didn't have an aim of being a writer who pens a tale for attention or literary merit, but to be heard in the midst of his grief and as a tool to help heal and distrac

This was a devastating read. Tears rolled down my face almost from the first page to the last. Here is a story you wouldn't wish on anyone. Beautifully written; comes as close as any book could to taking you right inside this man's life. If you think you can take it, don't miss it.

This is a book that isn't easy to review. It's the story of a father who lost his daughter in the most horrifying way. You can not criticize him for what he says or what he feels. Throughout the book, you are taken into this story. Even though I never heard of this story since I'm not British, I felt the emotions of the family and could empathize (although I can't even imagine how they felt). Considering everything, I did have a few moments where I thought well that's not fair. I'm not saying th ...more

Heartbreaking to read, and with no obvious reason or regret it makes it all the more difficult to comprehend how this two disgusting excuses for human beings could commit such a crime. Becky's family have remained stoic and strong throughout this horrendous tragedy and I have so much respect for them.

Finished this day before yesterday. Had it with me while on a mini cruise to Newcastle (3 days) of which I was not able to sleep the first night, so i was glad because I could read this book. I remember when this happened. I visit the daily mail website nearly every day, where they were asking for any information about this missing girl Becky, to then learn the truth about what happened. So I knew about this but if you have not I can tell you this is an interesting case but very sad.

The story is

I remember following the news of Becky Watts' disappearance as it was all unfolding and I like many found the whole thing deeply disturbing. When I saw this book was available I was in two minds as to reading it at all, purely because of the sad nature of it. Ultimately I did read it and I literally didnt put it down from start to finish. Beckys Dad, Darren has done a remarkable job of putting his story into words and he offers a real insight into things that many people couldnt possibly even be ...more

This book is not for the faint hearted. They go into the horrifying detail of what happened to Becky during and after her death. However I can’t help thinking that there was defiantly more to this family’s life than Darren writes during their childhood. Obviously there is absolutely no excuse or reason in this entire world for what the couple did but I don’t think the relationships within the family were as happy and normal as he makes out. A heartbreaking story which can also make you feel horr ...more

An extremely emotional read

I remember when this actually happened and my heart literally went out to the Galsworthy family. To have a young persons life taken away is impossible to come to terms with, but then to find out that your daughter was murdered by your stepson and his partner is beyond words, and in such an evil and calculated way too. This book had me in tears but I just had to read it. Mr Galsworthy goes into great detail from Bex being born, growing up, her anorexia problems, gaining

Sad but can help others not make the same mistakes

I was fascinated by this book as it is a account of what happened to Becky thru the eyes of her Father. Sadly, it also reveals situations where as a Darren dropped the ball. Especially in how he dealt with his daughter being bullied in school and by Nathan. He so much wanted a happy family that he ignored the things he should have done more to protect his daughter. I would never make a child continue to attend a school where they are being bullie

I started this last night about 9pm, and it’s 5am and I’ve just finished it ( I got a few hours kip in between ) but I just wanted to finish the book. It was heart breaking, it’s a good job my husband was asleep as he would of wondered why I was crying my eyes out but Darren’s account of the whole tragedy just broke my heart! I remember seeing this on TV but you never really know what to believe when it comes from the media so to read it first hand from her father was upsetting. They both deserv ...more

Interesting and Sad

I'm not sure why I decided to read this book the cover and title appealed to me. I'm a true crime reader, I like so many others find it interesting to get into the mind of those that kill or have dealt with a killer.
This story brings to life the many details of this case. While there is no reason as to why this crime happened you do finish the book with an understanding and an acceptance. The punishment shall fit the crime has always been my belief, yet crimes, courts, and pu

Heartbroken for this family from the first to the last page. I will never be able to understand how someone can kill their sibling. This book, was a very easy read and I didn’t want to put it down. I finished the book in 3 nights. My prayers go out to this wonderful family who has had to endure so much pain. I pray that God, continues to heel your broken hearts.

I would recommend this book, to anyone who likes true crime stories. The father telling the story in this book is such a wonderful, car

Must have been cutting onions again

I cried during this book, this poor girls life was cut short by two twisted individuals. The fear and pain she must have been in. I can only imagine the horror that her family must have felt knowing that she died the way she did and going through the journey to find her justice. The descriptions that Becky's father gives during this book are so vivid, you can almost imagine being there with them as they walk in to view her body after the pieces had been put bac

A brother can sometimes be the worst you can have

This book really grabs you from the beginning. It had to be hard for the father to write and it probably took him a while to get his feelings together. This book shows how a so-called loving family, can turn so evil with one person. While reading this book I think my feelings were more into family, than treating it like a book. I had too many emotions into it. Overall, if you are a true crime reader, this is a book that will make you think about f

Hope

Every word written felt as if I was along side Darren and Anjie. Although I cannot fathom the heartache they endured, I empathize with them, as parents and as soul mates, the anguish they felt when their lives changed forever. As justice prevailed, my hope is that Darren, Anjie, and Danny (and all other family and friends) get the answers they so deserve. The pain will never go away, just gets a little easier to deal with as the years go on. Bless the Galsworthy family. And rest peacefully s

Beck Watts was murdered by her stepbrother in England. This book was work by her father, and was s much a tribute to Becky's life as it was the story of her death and her stepbrother's subsequent trial. It was a heartbreaking story told by the man who loved her the most. Worrying this book was obviously very cathartic for the author. It's amazing how some people can perpetuate such evil on their own families.

Emotional and Gut Wrenching.

This brief review can not do justice for what this family has been through. The realization that there truly was a monster in the family.
The writer not only gives the reader a glimpse into his family life , he opens the door and invites us in to have a seat.
This is not only a story about an indescribable murder, it's a love story that can survive.

Story written by the father of Becky Watts, and thus his first book. Mr. Galsworthy does an admirable job writing this heartbreaking story about the murder of his daughter by her step-brother. As true crime goes, his book truly conveyed the heartbreak that all victims suffer by such a tragic death. It is well written and planned out and so easy to read and feel. Thanks for also sharing your family photos. So sorry for your loss.

I thought the honesty in mr Galsworthy's account of what happened to his daughter in this book is incredible. I could neither have held myself together throughout the court case nor remained in a relationship with the murderers mother had I been in his very place. He is a very strong individual. There are some things I didn't understand like how his mother could still love or care for Nathan. Bond or not if that was my son I would want him dead myself I feel. This book totally touched me emotion ...more

I was keen to read this as I followed the case very closely at the time. A harrowing tale but Darren tells it from the family perspective and so it's not at all ghoulish. I connected with Darren well through his writing and felt like I understood the family dynamic much better. Of course there are no answers as to why Nathan and Shauna committed such atrocities so the reader is left frustrated as the family are. Well written account though - much love to Darren and Anjie.

Such a horrible event to take place. While reading this book I was so emotional and felt so horrible for both parents. Who would ever think that a child you raise would be capable of such horror. The way this book was written almost made you feel as if you were there with the parents and felt the emotions they were going through. Such a horrendous crime.

Unbelievable!!!

The hardest book I have ever read. My heart goes out to Becky, the struggles she had growing up, foster care, the bullying, etc. Her father and stepmother were amazing to her, and all their children, just such a heart wrenching book to read and know it really happened. Rest in peace beautiful Becky, and comfort to Darren and Anjie.

After reading the first few chapters I realised I had read this before!

This story is heatbreaking and shows how much love a parent has for there child.

The awful events that happend, the fact that it was kept hidden and that there was no emotion shown for it unreal.

Very heart breaking story

Why, How, What went wrong?

I don't have the answers and neither does the author. How can a family member plan and carry out such an evil murder ? This is an heart wrenching book you can't put down. You may feel anger, shed tears , and have this book on your mind for weeks to come, I know I won't forget it.

Gutwretching

The author of this book if the father of the young girl murdered by her stepbrother, and it must have been heartbreaking to tell this story. He keeps the book balanced as much as one can. I truly hope that the evil person who did this will finally tell them the very things they need to know.
